We did SO MUCH drawing last year on zoom, I wanted to jump right into painting this year!
The 4th graders looked at and discussed the work of artist, Jen Stark, and her use of line, pattern and color. Students then used her paintings as inspiration for their own drippy, colorful paintings.
They started by drawing squiggly, drippy lines, then made up their own patterns of color to paint. This lesson was our introduction to using the painting station. Students learned how to use the tempera paint appropriately and how to be responsible for getting supplies and cleaning up at the end of class.
4th graders are so happy to be back in the art studio! We started the year with sketchbooks and drawing tools. We discussed different places artists get ideas (what they see, what they imagine, what they feel) and the students each made a work of art on a tiny piece of paper for Irving's Tiny Art Gallery, on display in the hallway.
