1st Grade

I was so happy to welcome the 1st graders into the art studio! They were also excited to see the art room after being at home last year and doing art on zoom and then, when we started in-person learning, I was coming into their classrooms to teach.

We started the year with an introduction to drawing tools. Students were given sketchbooks which they  will use at the beginning of each class as kind of an art warm-up.  The first few classes, they practiced the routine of cleaning up the drawing tools and putting away the sketchbooks when the time goes off. They are becoming so responsible!

In our first drawing lesson, we discussed line and what the difference is between lines and shapes. I was so impressed with how many different lines the students could think of!

Straight, curved, zigzag, squiggly, bumpy, broken...to name a few. Then discovered even more when we read the book "Lines that Wiggle." Students practiced drawing different lines in their sketchbooks and then inside the shape of their hand.
