2nd Grade

I was so happy to welcome the 2nd graders into the art studio!

We started the year with an introduction to drawing tools. Students were given sketchbooks which they  will use at the beginning of each class as kind of an art warm-up.  The first few classes, they practiced the routine of cleaning up the drawing tools and putting away the sketchbooks when the time goes off. They are becoming so responsible!

In our first drawing lesson, we discussed line and what the difference is between lines and shapes. I was so impressed with how many different lines the students could think of!

Straight, curved, zigzag, squiggly, bumpy, broken...to name a few. Then discovered even more when we read the book "Lines that Wiggle."

Students practiced drawing different lines to fill inside the shape of their hand. We talked about how happy we are to be together at school this year, after being home and separate for most of last year. The hands became part of a display in the hallway along with this quote:
"We are each unique and beautiful, but together we are a masterpiece."
